THE YOGALIA MEDITATION EXPERIENCE
Collective performance

2007
Yogalia (Yoga + Italia) is a yoga-based performance developed as a speculative practice for restoring the well-being of Italy.
The piece unfolds as a conventional yoga class, led by a certified instructor who guides participants through an adapted sequence of asanas within a tricolour elastic band, evoking the colours of the Italian flag. The audience is invited to participate in the meditation at their own pace, collectively channelling energy and attention toward a symbolic practice of care and repair.
Drawing on the structures and principles of yoga, the work engages the body as a site of both individual and collective resonance. Positioned between ritual, performance, and social commentary, Yogalia reflects on the tensions within contemporary Italian society, addressing a nation marked by institutional strain, corruption, and the resurgence of fascist tendencies.
